Reception/Year 1 – Mr Coupland and Mrs Morris

Spring Term 2021

This term our topic is ‘In the news, Read all about it: The fires of Tsavo.’  We will be focusing on the Tsavo region of Kenya, looking at habitats and wildlife.  We will also be using Kenya as the focus of our other work, looking at the Maasai of Kenya and Northern Tanzania, Kilimanjaro and through our topic science lessons looking at the weather, the sun and the importance of water.

We will be looking at four rich texts this term, these are…

  1. Handa’s Surprise
  2. Weather: Sun and Us
  3. Masai and I
  4. Handa’s Hen

We will also be communicating through Seesaw and Google Classroom.  All of the children have a dedicated Google login that will be sent out in the Autumn term.  Again, if you are having trouble accessing Seesaw, Classroom or other G-Suite services, please contact us and we will help in any way we can.

Spelling lists will be put onto Spelling Shed weekly for the children to practice and learn.

Tasks and activities will be put onto Mathletics weekly to help develop new skills and practice existing knowledge in numeracy.

Who will achieve a gold certificate this term?

We aim through all of the different projects to continue to uphold the 4 purposes of the new Welsh curriculum.  We aim for all of the children to be…
