Year 4/5 – Miss Holmes

Rendered ImageDuring the current school closures we will be posting weekly themed projects containing tasks and activities that your children can do at home. These weekly projects will be posted on the school website home page, Twitter (@maepyear45), Google Classroom and through SeeSaw.

You are able to contact myself through SeeSaw as well as sending pictures and videos of work the children have been up to. If you do not have the login details for your child’s account please contact the school distance learning email address found below and we can provide them for you.

Alongside the weekly themed projects we encourage the children to use Spelling Shed and Mathletics as often as they can in order to develop their skills. There are weekly competitions running to see which class can get the most points. How far can we get up the leaderboard?

If there are any queries they can be communicated to the staff via our dedicated distance learning email address (distancelearning@maesycwmmerprm.co.uk).

Finally, we hope that you and your families are all safe and well. Please don’t hesitate to contact us, we are here if you need us. Stay safe!

The Sky is the Limit…

For the Spring term, our Key Stage 2 topic is ‘The Sky is the Limit’. In Year 4/5 we have chosen to focus on space!

Enterprising, Creative Contributors-

To start off our Space topic, we discussed what we already knew and what we were really interested in to decide what we all wanted to learn. Together, the children planned what they will be learning throughout this topic. We are really interested in asteroids, space technology and astronauts!

Ambitious, Capable Learners-

Throughout the topic the children will experience tasks across the curriculum that will promote their independence as well as solving problems with real life links.

All children have the opportunity to develop their spelling and maths skills both in school and at home using their Spelling Shed and Mathletics accounts.

Healthy, Confident Individuals-

Every week, the children will participate in a PE session. Please ensure you have your PE kits in school! Children also have the opportunity to participate in the daily mile to help their minds and bodies keep fit and healthy!

The children also have the opportunity to get involved with lots of different clubs at school such as cookery, coding, multisports, netball and podcasting to allow them to become more confident individuals in other activities.

Ethical, Informed Citizens-

The children will have opportunities throughout the term to take part in workshops to allow them to become for ethically informed. We have been taught sign language, had talks from the local PCSO and firemen to help us keep safe and have been introduced to foreign languages. We will be celebrating different festivals from around the world as well as learning more about our Welsh history and heritage around St. David’s day.

Follow @maepyear45 for more details and interesting photos of the children’s work and you can follow your child’s SeeSaw to see what they get up to during their day!
